Nobel awardee Abhijit Banerjee : An Indian - American Economist




Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee was awarded Nobel Prize 2019 for his experimental approach to alleviate poverty jointly with Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer. He termed this chance of making a dent against global poverty as a worldwide movement. He got B.Sc degree from University of calcutta in 1981 and completed his master degree from JNU, Delhi in 1983. Then he completed his PhD degree with a thesis titled as  Essays in Information Economics from  Harvard University in 1988.



He is one of the eminent economist in the world. Currently he is working as a professor in MIT. I was really curious about this fellow economist, when I  get to know from a news article about his 17 pages CV.

He was asked about the current  state of Indian economy in the press conference. He said that the average consumption in urban and rural areas in India gone down for the first time which happened many years. That must be an warning sign for Indian Economy.
